MONTROSE, Colo. – An internet-based Hunter Education Course is now being offered for residents in southwest Colorado. The internet course is a convenient way for prospective hunters to earn their hunter education cards.

The on-line section of the course can be done at home, but it must be completed by Feb. 28. Those who take the on-line course must then participate in a day-long skills class scheduled for 9:30-2:30 p.m., March 1, at the Community Center in Ridgway. A pre-test is first on the agenda and participants must pass that test to continue for the rest of the day.

The skills class will include: firearms safety with shooting, hunter responsibilities, wildlife regulations and other hands-on activities.

The class is free. Rifles and ammunition will be provided at the skills section No personal firearms are allowed.

Anyone born after 1949 who wishes to hunt in Colorado must earn a hunter education card.

For more information and to register for the class, call District Wildlife Manager Kelly Crane at 970-209-2369. She will provide instructions on how to get started with the home-study part of the class.
