DENVER, CO: Ken Buck released the first in a series of videos entitled,Ken Cares, about
his work within the community and in his career as Weld County District Attorney. The
first of these videos, called, “Stephanie’s Story,” features a young woman who was
abused and threatened by her then-
In 2008, Stephanie fled her home in Montana after her husband, a frequent abuser and molester, threatened to murder her. With two young children in tow, she returned to her parent’s home in Eaton, Colorado. That is when she connected with Ken Buck.
“Ken helped me get through a rough time in my life,” said Stephanie, who is now a nurse in Greeley.“I don’t know where I would be if it weren’t for Ken’s work.He helped me to see that I have a voice and I shouldn’t be afraid to use it.”
In the video, Buck also points out that after Stephanie’s case, he learned that a major loophole in the law allowed perpetrators like Stephanie’s husband to continue contacting the children.
Buck, Stephanie, and even her daughter went to the state legislature so that they could help close the loophole. The bill was signed into law in 2011.
“As long as I’m alive I will continue to fight to protect my daughter—and I want to help everyone’s children,” she continued.“I would like to help Ken get elected so that he will continue to push for the protection of victims at the national level.”
